"Everyday" Assistance With Therapeutic Activities

A challenging, rewarding experience awaits your at the Kane Regional Center in Glen Hazel. Assist the staff with �day to day� social interactions on Unit 4B. Help with small groups playing cards or games, initiating reminiscence and discussions, or assist with parties, socials, crafts, and food events. We need help on WEEKDAYS � 9-11am or 1-3pm.

Activity Program Volunteer

UPMC Senior Communities Seneca Manor is looking for activity program volunteers. Volunteers are needed to run and assist with activity programming at an assisted living facility. If you are outgoing, energetic, and love working with people, then this is the perfect oppertunity for you!

Afterschool Program

Volunteers needed for our afterschool program on Thursdays to interact with children in kindergarten through grade 5. We need homework helpers, arts and crafts leaders and helpers, storytellers, recreation leaders and dinner servers. We will be starting on October 1st, but we encourage interested volunteers to contact us before this date. *If you do not already have Act 33/34 clearance, we will help you apply for it.

Apply To Become A Court Appointed Special Advocate

CASA holds 3 trainings a year to become a Court Appointed Special Advocate for abused and neglected children. Our volunteer advocates speak up for what's in the best interest of children within the child welfare system. The 1st step to becoming a CASA volunteer is to attend one of our Open Houses, held 3rd every Wednesday.

Book Buddies

The Book Buddies program is an ongoing project that promotes literacy skills in children grades K-5. The program will be serving children from many different cultural backgrounds. Many of these children may not have an adult at home who is able to read to them in English. Volunteers will share a book with a child by reading or listening enthusiastically to the child read. Volunteers will also help with other pre-planned activities including crafts and games. No experience is needed, but ACT 33/34 clearances are required.

Business Boosting Early Learning

The Business Boosting Early Learning (BBEL) program is seeking volunteers to either read to children within childcare centers in Allegheny County and/or offer business expertise, based on the needs of the individual centers. This volunteer opportunity may be a one-time experience; however the preference is for an individual or business to commit to an ongoing relationship with the chosen childcare center where the volunteer will return to the center as his or her schedule permits to read to the children�leaving behind books supplied by Beginning with Books in order to help the center establish its library. In the case of a business adopting a center, employee volunteers would rotate. Beginning with Books provides training for reading volunteers and pays for clearances.

The duration of the skills-based projects would vary based on the nature of the project, and may be conducted remotely or at the center. The centers will be matched with volunteers based on the skills the centers� needs, as identified through their participation in the Keystone STARS (Standards, Training/Professional Development, Assistance, Resources, and Support ) program, in which all early learning programs and practitioners are encouraged and supported to improve child outcomes. Ultimately, the skills offered by the volunteers will help the centers increase their Keystone Stars levels.

The Pittsburgh Association for the Education of Young Children provides matching and volunteer training for centers seeking business expertise. Specific certifications are not required.

Cart To Heart - Shopping For Seniors

Volunteer shoppers are needed to do grocery shopping twice a month for elderly who are unable to grocery shop and have no one to assist them. Volunteers receive the grocery order, shop at the grocery store, deliver the groceries to the senior and have a brief friendly visit. Volunteers provide their shopping availability (weekdays, evenings, weekends, etc.) and preferred areas of the county for shopping and are then matched with a senior. Reliable and committed volunteers are needed throughout Allegheny County. Volunteers will receive orientation, training and ongoing support from staff. Volunteers must have access to a vehicle, be age 18 or over and be willing to complete a criminal history background check. This is a great family volunteer opportunity (volunteers can have their children participate with them).

Committee Members

Partners For Quality Foundation is looking for members for all three of its Committees: Fundraising Committee, Fashion Show Committee, Special Projects Committee. Meeting times and dates vary. Volunteeers are needed to help plan and execute special events throughout the year.

Gift Shop Attendant

UPMC Senior Communities Seneca Place is looking for a volunteer gift shop attendant. This volunteer will run the facility gift shop. The responsibilities include setting up the shop, assisting residents, families and visitors with purchasing items, closing the cash register and other duties associated with running a gift shop. Hours are from 4PM-8PM but days can vary depending on the schedule of the volunteer.

Immediate Need For MOW Delivery Volunteers

We are in need of at least 1 volunteer who can drive, and 1 volunteer who can "hop" out of the car to deliver meals to our home-bound clients. You can sign up as a team, or you can sign up as an individual and you will be assigned a delivery partner. Volunteers can help daily, weekly, monthly, or as substitutes. We are looking for volunteers who have weekday morning avaliability and live in or near Carrick, Beechview, or the Brookline area.

MEALS On Wheels

We urgently need volunteers to deliver meals to seniors! We need drivers and and helpers to cover four routes with two volunteers to each route.

Meals On Wheels Delivery

Volunteers are needed on a regular basis to deliver hot and cold meals to seniors who live in the Wilkinsburg community. We serve approximately 70 seniors on a daily basis Monday - Friday usually between 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. Each car has a driver and a helper who delivers the meals. Our numbers continue to increase so it is difficult to keep up with these increases with a small core of dedicated volunteers.

Time commitment: Meals are delivered between 11:00 - 1:00 pm Monday - Friday, including holidays that fall only on a weekday. Volunteers are typically scheduled for the same weekly route, but some volunteers deliver more than once per week and some as little as once per month. Substitutes who are available on an on-call basis are also needed as volunteers.

Requirements: Volunteers must be 18 years of age, use their own vehicle and have a valid PA Driver's License. May need to lift 25-40 lb container into car and should be able to climb stairs if necessary. Couples or partners may work together. A positive attitude and a hear for the elderly would also help. Helpers who are delivering the meals do not need to have a driver's license.

Meals On Wheels Volunteers Needed In Mt. Washington

Lutheran Service Society's Meals on Wheels location in the Mt. Washington area is in need of drivers who can help deliver meals to the home-bound. Our biggest need is for help on Thursday mornings, but we can use help any day of the week. Please call if you are interested in helping!

Mentoring Children

Mentors make a difference in as little as 2 hours per month in their own communities! Opportunities exist to connect with programs that are searching for mentors in areas such as after school tutors, story time readers at local libraries, career presenters to speak to local students, Big Brother/ Big Sisters and e-mentors, just to name a few. We help support over 150 agencies in the area provide mentors to children. There are over 1000 children still waiting for a mentor!

With such a wide range of programs, we will help you find the right program for you so you can make a difference in the life of a child.

Mock Project

The intent of this project is to show how the process of registering for a project by the volunteer actually works. It will also show the communication that takes place between the volunteer, the agency, and Pittsburgh Cares.

On-Going Physical And Mental Health Support For At-Risk Individuals

Urban location in downtown Pittsburgh seeking volunteer doctors and psychiatrists for 2-3 hours per week to assist underserved individuals. Times vary according to availability.

PA EMentoring Program

PA eMentoring is a fun, online college and career mentoring program that connects working adults with high school students. PA eMentoring is designed around 10 fun activities that guide communications and deliver results. And everything is online. Just find a computer and get connected.

All mentors are guided to complete a one-step online Volunteer Screening from our Web site. There is a one time fee of $9.95. ACT 33/34 Clearances are no longer needed.

Refugee Family Savings Account Program

We are looking for Burmeese, Comali, Bantu, and Nepatese volunteers to translate and work with our families in Pittsburgh. These people will need to explain our program to these families and answer their questions, so these people must also be fluent in English. We are working with Jewish Family and Children's Service in Pittsburgh on this project.

Support Your Elderly Neighbors In Need

Assist your frail, elderly neighbors in need! Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers seeks compassionate individuals to help in one or more of the following ways:

-provide rides to medical appointments or to run errands for seniors who need help with transportation -help with grocery shopping by either taking a senior to the store or going to the store for them -make friendly visits to a senior who may be lonely Our program is flexible; volunteer only in ways that match your interests and at times that fit your schedule. All volunteers must attend a training/orientation session and obtain a criminal history background check.

Telephone Conversation Partner Program

Are you interested in volunteering but only have 1-2 hours a month? Then volunteer with the Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council! We can partner you with a student who wants to speak English better over the phone. An easy training and ongoing support will be provided.

The minimum age to volunteer for this project is 18.

Volunteer Bill Payer

This unique volunteer bill-paying opportunity requires at least a year commitment. Training is required to ensure that volunteer is competent in balancing a checkbook. Position requires check writing, sorting/organizing mail, and come telephone advocacy of seniors who are alert and oriented. Volunteer has freedom to establish an agreeable home or facility (senior high rise) with consumer.

Volunteer Substitutes Needed

Lutheran Service Society operates more than 40 Meals on Wheels locations in the Pittsburgh area, and they all rely heavily on volunteers to deliver meals to their home-bound clients. If you have a reliable vehicle or transportation, please consider signing up to be a volunteer substitute. We would contact you if we become low on volunteers and need help with meal deliveries. Must have some avaliability on weekday mornings. Thank you!
